Timeless workmanship is prevalent: earthenware, viniculture, olive trees, the cork plantations and local marble quarries. Modern industries are absent on this plateau.

The following sights are worth visiting:

In Vila Viçosa the royal hunting palace, the Moorish fortresses, the church of the national patron saint, the Pousada, housed in a former monastery and the remains of the Roman era. VilaViçosa also has an archaeological and history museum.
In Borba( approx. 5 kms from Vila Viçosa) there are various places of interest such as the monastery built in the 17th century by religious order of the “Servas de Cristo“, the many marble quarries and the availability of courses in sculpturing. Borba also produces elegant wines. The wine cooperative is worth a visit; wine tasting sessions are held on request.
The pottery of Redondo( approx. 20 kms) where terracotta pottery( dinner services and pots) are made by hand .This characteristic potterye is available at reasonable prices.
Elvas, a fortified town, where Dutch engineers built a city wall in the 17th century after the fashion of the Dutch city of Naarden fortress( about 30 kms). The town centre has recently been put back in its former glory and therefore worth visiting.
Evora( 50 kms) and Monsaraz, world heritage cities.
Estremoz with its medieval city walls, still in perfect condition.
The medieval castles of Alandroal and Terena
The golf courses in Portalegre (75 Kms), Badajoz (about 50 Kms) and in Redondo (being developed, about 35 Kms)
The leather market in Terrugem
At 20 kms the very large water reservoir of Alqueva lake ( see before)
